NORTH AMERICAN DESERT - The Desert Region, found in the southwest part of the United States is known for its very hot temperatures and beautiful scenery. Most desert plants are xerophytes (plants dependent on a permanent water supply). The many different types of cactus bring the most attention, with the Saguaro, Prickly Pear, Yucca and Hedgehog Cactus being the most popular. Many birds, insects, lizards, snakes, rabbits, and other animals such as coyotes, bobcats, foxes and skunks are found in these desert regions.
