Description

The front side of the card depicts the main lobby of the famous Muehlebach Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri. The image is an interesting color scheme: black, yellow, and some blue.

The Muehlebach Hotel has an incredible history. The property, then the site of the First Baptist Church, was acquired in 1914 by the Muehlebach Estate Co., owned by George E. Muehlebach, whose father, George E. Muehlebach Sr., founded the Muehlebach Beer Company. Muehlebach demolished the church and built a 12-story hotel building at a cost of $2 million. It opened as the Muehlebach Hotel in May, 1915. Manager Barney Allis took over the hotel in 1931, and during his lengthy tenure, the hotel welcomed celebrities including Helen Keller, Ernest Hemingway, Babe Ruth, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Elvis Presley, and The Beatles. The hotel also hosted Presidents including Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover, while Missouri-native Harry S. Truman stayed in the hotel’s Presidential Suite so frequently that the Muehlebach became known as White House West. The original building have since been demolished, and replaced with new, modern structures. However, the new owners of the property, Marriott, restored the main lobby and ballrooms.

The back side of the card features a brief note, and includes a stamp and postage. Inconveniently, only the first three numbers of the year (192[-]) are legible.
