Hawker Hurricane

The Hawker Hurricane is most noted for its unmatched presence in the Battle for Britain, where it reigned supreme in protecting the country and fending off Nazi forces. The postcard image appears to be representative of this fact, as there is a smoking, fallen plane behind the main one, as well as what appears to be a friendly Hurricane behind that. The two successful (or at least, surviving) Hurricanes have triumphed over the fallen enemy. The fact that the plane is flying directly towards us suggests a fearlessness, the dogfighting attitude necessary of military aviators. Once again, this reinforces the military myth, and alludes to the interesting concept that the United States was not the only country attempting to instill military pride and fervor in its public.
