Representations of Babies
While not an overly common feature on postcards, babies are still regularly depicted. From the collection on postcards, I have found four categories of baby representations: birth announcements, product advertisements, babies featured with their parents, and baby portraits.
Each of these genres offer different perspectives of babies, while still maintaining and reinforcing a homogenous representation. The patterns in which babies are presented on postcards suggests that babies, unlike children and adults, are rather limited in their usability and representation on postcards.
